The Virginia Museum of Transportation will sponsor its annual School Children's Excursion on May 5. The one-way trip is limited to kindergarten through high school students, teachers and chaperons and costs $7 per run, per person.
The Norfolk & Western "J" Class No. 611 will pull out of Roanoke at 9:30 a.m. and make stops in Bedford, Lynchburg, Appomattox, Farmville and Crewe.

Films at Hollins
Hollins College will hold its seventh Colloquium on Film from April 1-3 on its campus. The film screenings and discussions will focus on Jim Jarmusch, an independent American filmmaker whose works have attracted a cult following in Europe, Japan and on American college campuses.
All five of Jarmusch's films will be screened during the event, and faculty from several colleges will discuss various aspects of his films.
Jarmusch is expected to attend on the last day of the colloquium.

Juggling stress
"It's a Juggle Out There . . . " begins the theme of the 9th Annual Women's Forum to be held April 27 at 7 p.m. in Mill Mountain Theatre.
Speaker, trainer, humorist and magician Shirley Garrett will present "It's a Juggle Out There: Managing Stress in Today's World." Her talk is presented by the Carilion Center for Women's Health Education at Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley.
Garrett, orphaned at the age of 4 and declared mentally retarded and unadoptable, is now completing a doctorate in education at the University of Georgia. She was presented with the Georgia Woman of Achievement Award by the Georgia Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs in 1992.
