`PETER RABBIT' REISSUED IN MINIATURE EDITIONS

It was in 1893 that Beatrix Potter wrote a letter to her young friend, Noel Moore, which began: "Dear Noel, I don't know what to write to you, so I shall tell you a story about four little rabbits, whose names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter."

Potter went on to tell the story of the naughty little rabbit as he is chased by McGregor through the garden with its patches of lettuce, radishes and parsley.

"The Tale of Peter Rabbit" and the 22 other stories in Potter's series have been translated into nearly 30 languages and read by children all over the world.

Frederick Warne has published the original Peter Rabbit books in a 4 1/4 -by-5 3/4 format ($5.95 each).

The 23 books are also available in a set of miniature editions in a portable case, "Mini Peter Rabbit Bookshop" ($35); "The 100th Anniversary 1-23 Presentation Box," which contains all 23 tales ($135); "The 100th Anniversary 1-12 Presentation Box," which contains the first 12 of the original Peter Rabbit Books in a carrying case ($70); and "The 100th Anniversary 13-23 Presentation Box," which contains the other 11 books in the series ($65). -Associated Press
