LET INMATES BUILD THE JAILS

IN THE FEB. 19 story by Laurence Hammack, "3 more suits filed over jail conditions," Michael A. Thomas says being left in jail is making him bitter and he may be doomed to return to jail. He wants better medical care, a larger cell and outside recreational opportunities.

Did he have these things before he got caught for the crimes that put him in jail for the past 16 1/2 months?

The sheriff in Arlington is proposing a program to put inmates to work painting, getting trash off roadways and working on building new jails. Sheriff Alvin Hudson should also try for a program like this. MARIE FOLEY CATAWBA
