Moore, who is averaging a little better than 10 points per game for the Yellow Jackets, missed Tuesday's game against Youngstown State because of the flu and was questionable Saturday. However, the 6-foot-8 freshman out of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., ignited a 19-5 Tech surge that started late in the first half and carried on past intermission.
The run started with Tech (7-1) ahead by two points.
James Forrest led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points. Malcolm Mackey added 18 and Travis Best 10 for Georgia Tech, which opens the Atlantic Coast Conference season Tuesday at Maryland.

Despite racing to an 8-2 lead, Tech led only 25-23 after Mackey made one free throw with 4:16 remaining in the first half.
Moore then scored on a drive through the lane for a 27-23 lead. After Juan Banks answered for VMI, Moore sank two free throws, then followed with a 3-point play during the 12-2 run for a 36-25 Georgia Tech lead with 1:22 left in the half.
VMI scored the final three points of the first half to close to 36-28.
Tech scored the first eight points of the second half to make it 44-28. Mackey scored six of Tech's points.
After Penn made VMI's second straight 3-pointer to pull the Keydets to 44-34, Moore scored on a 3-point play for a 47-34 lead with 15:07 remaining.
Three minutes later, Moore scored six unanswered Georgia Tech points, halting another VMI run, for a 57-41 lead with 10 minutes remaining. \
