TECH WOMEN WIN 7TH GAME
Jenny Root scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Virginia Tech women's basketball team romped over Gardner-Webb University 89-59 Saturday night in Cassell Coliseum.Tech built a 25-15 lead with 11:43 remaining in the first half and it never got closer than 18 the rest of the game.
Lisa Griffith and Sue Logsdon paced Virginia Tech with 12 points each. Griffith also blocked five shots to move into fifth place on the school's career blocks chart with 62. Terri Garland, a former Pulaski County High School standout, scored a career-high 11 points.
Virginia Tech used all 12 players on the roster and 11 scored. The Lady Hokies blocked 12 Gardner-Webb (4-5) shots.
The Lady Hokies (7-2), off to the best start in their 17-year history, face Lynne Agee's UNC-Greensboro in Greensboro, N.C., on Wednesday. Agee formerly coached at William Fleming High. \
