WESTERN KY. CLOBBERS HIGHLANDERS
Mark Bell led Western Kentucky with 12 points as every Hilltopper scored in an 88-58 basketball victory over Radford on Saturday night.Western (5-1) expanded a 44-27 halftime advantage, leading by 32 points twice in the second half, the last time at 84-52 on a pair of free throws by Derek Flowers with 1:27 left.
The Highlanders (4-6) never led and never got closer than 16 points in the second half.
Freshman Eric Bowens led Radford with 16 points.
"I really don't think this is a team that's that much worse than last year," said Radford coach Ron Bradley, whose Highlanders lost to Western Kentucky 81-78 a year ago. "Mentally, we just didn't seem to be prepared."
Western led 9-2 with 16:58 left in the first half, but Bowens made a 4-foot jumper to bring the Highlanders to five at 16:39. Doug Day followed with a 3-pointer to pull Radford to 9-7 with 15:56 remaining, but that was the last shot he made, finishing with three points.
Western's Lorenzo Lockett scored at 15:05 to widen the margin to four. \
