ROANOKE SPCA WORKER HURT IN DOG ATTACK
A worker at the Roanoke SPCA was attacked Tuesday morning by a Great Dane after she walked into the dog's cage.Robin Bush, 31, suffered possible nerve and tissue damage after the dog bit her on the right arm during the 9:30 a.m. attack.
She had gone into the cage after becoming worried that the dog was bleeding internally.
Roanoke police said Bush's arm swelled to more than twice its normal size. She had been one of the few people at the shelter who could work with the dog, which has been confined since October during court hearings on whether it should be destroyed.
Police could provide no definitive information Tuesday on the outcome of the court cases involving the dog.
City animal control officers estimated that the animal weighs between 85 and 100 pounds.
One of two men who came to Bush's assistance, Dennis Moir, 44, attempted to hold the dog at bay with a pole. He lost his balance and dropped the pole just before the dog came after him.
Moir had the skin broken on his hands trying to ward off the attack.
The other man forced the dog back into its cage while Bush and Moir escaped.
