AMERICANS MUST RISE ABOVE PETTY POLITICS

THE CARTOON in the Jan. 1 edition of the Roanoke Times & World-News depicts President-elect Clinton as a hillbilly hog farmer who is filling the White House with hogs. It is in very poor taste, and I am appalled by it.

As Republicans and Democrats, if we don't wake up and put our country above our petty politics and support our president, we are a gone generation and have nothing to look forward to for our children and grandchildren. America as we know it will be a thing of the past. EDITH H. DELP RURAL RETREAT
