FORMER NEWS EDITOR BILL DIEHL DIES AT 72

Bill Diehl, a former editor at The News & Advance, has died. He was 72.

Diehl collapsed early Thursday morning at his Lynchburg home and was pronounced dead a short time later. The cause of death was not released.

Diehl came to Lynchburg in 1976 to become editorial page editor of what is now known as The News & Daily Advance. In 1982, he began writing an editorial column for the paper.

Diehl left the newspaper in 1983 to accept the Gannett Distinguished Professorship in journalism at Marshall University.
