JOBLESS-BENEFITS COMPUTER CLEARED
Problems with a Richmond computer cleared up Thursday and applications for unemployment benefits were going through, according to Ralph Cantrell, commissioner of the Virginia Employment Commission."We have our fingers crossed," he said.
A computer glitch at the state Department of Information Technology delayed VEC claim processing and payments earlier in the week.
The computer appeared to be "working like a charm," said Bruce Johannessen of the VEC unemployment insurance office in Roanoke.
If the computer continues to operate properly, the agency should be able to process its backlog of benefit applications by late next week, Cantrell said.
Unemployment checks for people whose applications are inVEC hands are moving, he said, but the holdup has been in new applications for benefits.
