GEORGE WILL PLANS SPEECH AT W&L
George F. Will, syndicated columnist and author, will be the guest speaker for Washington and Lee University's Founders' Day Convocation at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lee Chapel.Founders' Day is celebrated each year on Jan. 19, Robert E. Lee's birthday.
At his funeral, the board of trustees of Washington College resolved that Lee's birthday would always be celebrated at the college. Lee died on Oct. 12, 1870.
Will also will be one of the honorary initiates tapped by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national honorary fraternity founded at W&L in 1914.
Will's newspaper column appears twice weekly in 470 newspapers across the United States. He is a contributing editor to Newsweek and occasionally writes for The London Daily Telegraph.
Winner of a Pulitzer Prize in 1977, Will also is an analyst for ABC News.
Will originally was to speak at Washington and Lee for the opening convocation in September, but that visit was canceled because of bad weather.
