SOCCER TOURNEY GETS 100 TEAMS

More than 100 soccer teams from four states will converge on Roanoke on Saturday and Sunday for the fourth annual Blum, Newman, Blackstock `N'door Soccer Classic.

The tournament will consist of 197 games to be played at North Cross School and City Reserve Indoor Soccer Arena.

The event has 12 men's divisions and four women's divisions. Teams expected to participate include the two-time defending champion Reston Rebels.

In other sports:

The Patrick Henry boys and girls ran away with the team titles of a 10-school indoor track meet Wednesday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

The PH girls scored 122 points to nearly equal the combined total of second-place Christiansburg (63) and third-place Blacksburg (62). Arminta Crosby led the victory with first-place finishes in the 55-meter dash and long jump.

Blacksburg's Katie Ollendick (high jump and 1,000-meter run) and Julie Pickle (55-meter hurdles and triple jump) also won two events each.

The PH boys scored 115 points to beat Christiansburg (101) for the team title. Blacksburg's Tommy Springer (high jump and triple jump) was the only two-event winner for the boys.

The Eastern Invitational Draft Horse Pull, which will feature top teams from many East Coast states, will be at the Virginia Horse Center Coliseum at 7 p.m. Saturday. - Staff report
