Monica Seles repeated herself in 1992, winning three of the four Grand Slam tournaments and dominating women's tennis for the second straight year. For that, she repeated as Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.

\ Brad Friedel, the goalkeeper for the U.S. men's Olympic team and UCLA, and Mia Hamm, a forward on North Carolina's women's team, were winners of the Hermann Trophy, awarded to the best college soccer players in the United States. Friedel beat out Virginia sophomore midfielder Claudio Reyna, an Olympic teammate, and Davidson senior forward Rob Ukrop in balloting by media and coaches.
