OBIT-BANKS, PORTIA BROWN

BANKS, Portia Brown, 77, of Vinton, died Tuesday, January 12, 1993. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Alfonso Banks; four sons, Kentha (Margie) Banks, Little Rock, Ark., Ronald Banks, Washington, D.C., Joseph (Barbara) Banks and William Banks, both of Vinton; three daughters, Rosa (Dennis) Grant, Freeport, N.Y., Alpha (Robert) Brown, Jamaica, N.Y., and Gail Myvette, Vinton; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Earl Brown, Roanoke, Bobby Brown and Donald Brown, both of Massachusetts; four sisters, Louella Hobson, Virginia Beach, Clara Carpenter, Edith Ford, both of Boston, Mass., Dorothy DeHaven, Roanoke; a devoted sister-in-law, Mary Frances; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Aubrey Pullen will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. Viewing and visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
