KING GAVE WORDS TO LIVE BY
AS WE APPROACH another year for the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, do we approach it with the same speeches, some of the same speakers, and, yes, some still with unchanged hearts and minds about him?I believe we would do him much justice in our celebration of his birthday if we indeed would seek to live out the true meaning of the words of life, which motivated him in life.
The true meaning of such words as "love works no ill to its neighbor." These are words we believe caused King to sacrifice and lay down his life for his fellow man.
And had we really understood these words, which somewhere were imprinted in the heart of the man Martin, no doubt he never would have lost his life in such a way.
Therefore, not to make a commitment to imprint these words upon our hearts and minds is to fall short of ever fulfilling the dream. For in these words is the everlasting power to wipe out every thought of racism, hatred, greed and envy, which caused his life to be taken from us. TONY TAYLOR ROANOKE
