RESIST LIBERAL CONSPIRACY ON GUNS

A SERIES of stories began in the Jan. 9 Roanoke Times & World-News edition on guns and crime in Virginia and outside it. By its own admission, this is a concerted effort between this newspaper and Norfolk newspapers.

I believe this is an all-out effort by the ultra-liberal press, following a lead by our liberal governor, to mount an unprecedented attack on our constitutionally protected right to bear arms.

The governor has said that the people of Virginia should allow the same failed gun-control laws of New York and Washington, D.C., to be imposed upon them to reduce violent crime here. However, these laws have done nothing to reduce crime in those cities and will do nothing to reduce crime in Virginia.

His one-gun-per-month proposal is nothing but an underhanded way of forcing a 30-day waiting period on honest law-abiding Virginians, and there is no evidence that waiting periods do anything to reduce crime. MICHAEL BRATTON MONETA
