WATER-BILL DISPUTE GOES TO COUNTY COURT
The $320,353 water bill dispute between Roanoke and Roanoke County has moved to Roanoke County Circuit Court. The lawsuit, originally filed in Roanoke Circuit Court last August, grows out of a contract under which the county agreed to buy 2.5 million gallons of water from the city through the year 2009.
The dispute is over a broadly worded provision that calls for the city to add capital improvement costs to the county's water bill. County officials maintain those figures include money to expand the city water service - at no benefits to the county. But city officials have said the improvements would benefit the entire water system. Roanoke is asking the court to order the county to pay $320,353 for water that the city provided from July 1990 to September 1991.
