KNIGHTS' 3-POINTERS SINK PATRIOTS
In a neighborhood Roanoke Valley District rivalry Friday night, Cave Spring went a long distance to win. The Knights connected on 11 3-point goals at Patrick Henry's gym, topping the skidding Patriots 63-58 in boys' basketball.Barry Webb and Robby Hibbs scored three 3-pointers each as Cave Spring (5-8 overall, 1-2 district) moved in front early and used its outside touch to stay ahead.
PH (1-10, 0-3) was led by Shannon Taylor's 17 points but was outscored 33-3 on 3-pointers.
Hibbs' 14 points paced the Knights, who also received 12 points from Matt Matheny. \

LEXINGTON - Marty Early had 17 points to lead the Wildcats (7-4, 1-0) over the Cavaliers in the Blue Ridge District. Lord Botetourt (4-5, 0-1), which led 30-29 at halftime, was paced by Ryan Salvi with 19 points, including six 3-pointers. Shannon Williams added 18 points and Gabe Sander 12. \

NEW CASTLE - The Highlanders raced to a 10-point halftime lead and survived the Rockets' fourth-quarter rally and a 3-point blitz by Robbie Huffman to win a Pioneer District game. Glenvar (8-3, 4-0) got 23 points from Jason Woolwine and 16 from Matt Woolwine. Jason Anderson added 12. Craig County's Huffman made seven of nine 3-point attempts and finished with 30 points. Kevin Lucas added 16 points for Craig County (5-6, 0-3). \

HOT SPRINGS - Senior Matt Sherard scored 10 of his game-high 20 in the fourth quarter as the Chargers opened their new $1.5-million gymnasium in style with a Pioneer District victory. James River (3-9, 2-2) pulled to 41-40 on a three-point play by Jody Steger with 3:32 left in the third quarter, but Tyler McCune scored to keep Bath County (6-6, 2-1) from losing the lead. Steger led the Knights with 15 points. \

The Raiders coasted to a Virginia Independent Conference victory over the Celtics. Marley hit 12 points for the Raiders (11-3, 4-0), and Montrice Smith added 11 and Jesse Webster 10. Catholic (3-13, 1-3) was paced by Jemarh Patterson with 15 points. \

LYNCHBURG - Gabe Lyons scored 30 points as the Bulldogs ran past the Eagles for a Virginia Independent Conference victory. Roanoke Valley Christian (2-6, 1-4) led 23-10 in the first quarter but was outscored 24-17 in the second quarter. RVC led 40-34 at halftime. LCA (5-7, 3-3) rallied in the fourth quarter. \

Cave Spring (13-2, 5-0) had three other scorers in double digits: Aimee Beightol with 15, her sister Allison Beightol with 14 and Amy Athey with 12. Elisha Jones led Patrick Henry (1-11, 0-6) with 16 points. \
