OBIT SMOOT, MARGARET VIRGINIA

SMOOT, Margaret Virginia, 88, of Radford, died Saturday, January 16, 1993, in Virginia Beach, where she was a resident of Windermere Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Radford College and held the Master of Science degree in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. A major portion of her forty-year teaching career was in special education programs of the Alexandria School System from which she retired in 1967. She was a charter member of the Northern Virginia Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women in Education. She was a lifelong member of Radford Christian Church. She is survived by a niece and her husband, Mary Ward Tilley and Dick Haislip of Virginia Beach; two nephews and their wives, Thomas L. and Betty Jo Tilley of Claytor Lake and Bernard E. and Christine Tilley of Radford; two half sisters, Ethel Atkinson of Fairlawn and Eleanor Eichelberger of Norfolk; one half brother, Howard L. Smoot of Radford. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 1993 at 2 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford. Memorial contributions may be made to Radford Christian Church, Radford, Virginia 24141 or to Windermere Botanical Gardens, 1604 Old Donation Parkway, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
