OBIT HALE, GARLAND KENNER

HALE, Garland Kenner, 75, of 200 Second Ave., Narrows, died Sunday morning, January 17, 1993, in the Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born in Narrows on July 3, 1917, and was a son of the late William and Mary Rowe Hale. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and V.F.W. Post No. 6000, both of Narrows. He retired from the Hoechst-Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows in 1979 after working there for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Elma Mannon Hale, Narrows; one daughter and son-in-law, Alma Jane and Kenneth D. Maggard, Baltimore, Md.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. and Lucinda Brown Hale, Narrows; five grandchildren, Tony and Gregory Maggard and their wives of Baltimore, Md., Mary K. Hale of Pembroke, Kelly and Nora Lee Hale, both of Narrows; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. M. B. Hale of Roanoke, Phil Hale of Narrows; and one sister, Elizabeth Hale Vanhusen, Jupiter, Fla. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riffe's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Walter Blankenship, the Rev. Edward Atkins and the Rev. Jack E. Musick officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey, Pearisburg, with services conducted by the V.F.W. Post No. 6000 of Narrows. The family will receive their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Monday evening from 7 until 9. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be sent to the Church of God of Prophecy Building Fund, 315 Poplar St., Narrows, Va. 24124.
