GROUP IS TAKING TOURISM INVENTORY
An inventory of tourism attractions and services for the New River Valley has been compiled through a cooperative effort involving the New River Valley HOSTS, the region's chambers of commerce and students from Virginia Tech.HOSTS' Tourism Assessment Committee is reviewing the inventory forms and will check with the chambers on any additional information that might be needed.
The six-member committee sought help on the inventory from Charlotte Reed, coordinator of business development programs with the Virginia Tech Economic Development Assistance Center.
Reed put the committee in touch with travel and tourism students taught by Muzzo Uysal.
The students spent two months making an inventory of attractions and businesses listed for them by the chambers of commerce.
The inventory will be used by other HOSTS committees in promoting the valley's tourism potential.
Once the inventory forms are accepted, the committee will start working on an assessment of tourism in the valley and how it might be improved.
HOSTS is looking for volunteers to help in the work.
