GIFTED STUDENTS TO VISIT SCHOOL
Gifted students from the Washington County school system will visit the Southwest Virginia Governor's School Thursday to see what the school offers.Washington County is not among the school divisions that send students to the half-day school, and distance probably would make its participation out of the question. But teachers in the county had heard of the school and contacted its officials to see if there was anything it might do for its students.
The Washington County students will see chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology and computer rooms during their afternoon visit.
Other counties outside the school's service area have sent students to Dublin to see and use the facilities. The school also has provided in-service programs for teachers from throughout Southwest Virginia.
The counties of Pulaski, Wythe, Floyd, Giles, Bland, Carroll and Grayson and the city of Galax are on the Governor's School board. They were joined this year by Smyth County.
