SHIELDS, Viola Holland, 69, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, January 21, 1993 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. She was born in Haywood County, N.C. on July 19, 1923, the daughter of the late Couch Henry and Ida Phillips Holland. She was retired from Burlington Industries, Glasgow Plant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Edward Shields who died on July 14, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Clark of Buena Vista and a son-in-law, Harold Clark; one son, Rodney Shield of Buena Vista; one sister, Mrs. Charles Wills, Canton, N.C.; one brother, John Holland, Riverside, Calif.; granddaughter and husband, Jessica and Wayne Beverly; grandson, Howie Clark and friend, Michelle Buzzard; great-granddaughter, Keston Paige Beverly; special friends, Margaret Holland, Dimple Hazelwood, Jacquilene Slough, and Hilda Austin. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. David Bain. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad.
