2 EX-THRIFTS JOIN RTC SALE OF 19 PARCELS
Resolution Trust Corp. next month will sell two buildings in downtown Roanoke, along with 17 other area properties, at an auction. The largest of the properties is the former headquarters of CorEast Savings Bank at Church Avenue and First Street Southeast. Keith Davis, spokesman for J.P. King Auction Group, said the RTC will establish a minimum price for that building.
He said the so-called reserve price will be based on the amount of interest among prospective bidders and set just before the sale.
All other properties, either branches or real estate foreclosed by failed thrifts, will be offered at absolute auction Feb. 22 at the Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel.
The other downtown Roanoke building is the former office of Investors Savings Bank at 130 Church Ave. S.W.
The RTC advertised sale of former CorEast branch at 1634 W. Main St. in Salem, but Davis said that building has been withdrawn from the auction.
Davis said the RTC had a contract for purchase of that building, which was closed Friday. He did not know the identity of the purchaser.
Single branch banks are offered for sale in Staunton and Clifton Forge, and three in Lynchburg.
A mini-warehouse in the 600 block of Campbell Avenue Southeast is one foreclosed commercial property; others are in Lynchburg and Hardy.
The RTC also will sell a house at Moneta, six condominiums and a vacant condominium lot at Snowshoe ski resort in West Virginia, and a vacant lot on Leeward Drive at the Waterfront in Moneta.
Davis said all of the properties will be open for public inspection Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Feb. 13-14 and Feb. 20-21.
Davis will open an auction office on the first floor of the CorEast building on Church Avenue on Feb. 5. That building will be open for inspection during office hours - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Davis also will answer questions about other properties.
