VHSL WILL HEAR SALEM PROTEST THURSDAY
The Virginia High School League executive committee will hold its hearing on Salem High School's protest of the state semifinal football game against Richlands High School on Thursday in Charlottesville. The Spartans, who lost 17-7 in the Group AA Division 4 game, contend that the Blue Tornadoes used cleats that were three-quarters of an inch on the muddy field. High school rules say half-inch cleats must be used.
Salem has submitted documents showing Richlands purchased the cleats the week of the Salem game. Orange High School, which played Richlands in the championship game a week later, had officials examine the cleats of the Blue Tornadoes. Officials from that game and the Orange game have been asked to submit reports pertaining to that game, and officials from all three schools have been asked to be present at the meeting.
