I WAS PLEASED to read the articles in the Roanoke Times & World-News that give facts instead of hyperbole about guns and gun control. It is scary to see the power of the gun lobby at work. The emotional fireworks over the proposed handgun legislation, as reflected in the letters on your editorial page, are evidence of the passion this issue evokes. I hope your paper will be a leader in attempting to sort fact from hysteria.

Further, wouldn't it be fine if the General Assembly passed effective gun-control legislation to stop this state from being the source of illegal guns for other jurisdictions? ROBERT VESSEY MEADOWVIEW
