TERRY HAS SURGERY IN ATLANTA CANDIDATE EXPECTS TO RETURN FRIDAY
Former Attorney General Mary Sue Terry expects to be back in Richmond on Friday, following a successful hysterectomy Tuesday in Atlanta.Terry is unopposed for the Democratic nomination for governor.
"I see absolutely no reason why she cannot resume her normal schedule of activities within a relatively short period of time," said Dr. Farr Nezhat, one of two surgeons who removed Terry's uterus in the two-hour operation Tuesday at Northside Hospital.
Nezhat pioneered the laparoscopic technique Terry chose for the operation, which included the removal of a benign tumor.
Terry chose the new technique because she wanted to resume a full schedule in seven to 10 days.
A traditional hysterectomy requires a recovery period of up to six weeks. - Staff report
