SEARCH TO RESUME FOR MISSING MAN
Bedford County authorities plan to resume a search this morning for a man who disappeared near Smith Mountain Lake early Monday. Bloodhounds have tracked the man's scent from a trailer to the water's edge.Sheriff Carl Wells said two men reported they had been with a man at a trailer in the Goodview area of the county Sunday night, and that they had lost track of him around 2 a.m. Monday.
A search party was organized after one of the men called authorities around 11 a.m. to report the missing person. After the tracking dogs followed the man's scent to the water, divers made at least four dives looking for the man's body.
Wells said the man's locked car was still at the trailer. A sneaker that one of the men said looked like one the missing man had been wearing was found floating in the water.
The search was called off after dark. Wells said it would resume after sunrise.
Wells declined to release the names of the men.
