WYTHE SHERIFF'S OFFICERS FIND STOLEN PROPERTY

The Wythe County Sheriff's Department has recovered more than $10,000 worth of property stolen in recent break-ins after widening its search to the Midwest.

Capt. Doug Cooley and Lt. Keith Dunagan, investigators with the department, traveled more than 1,600 miles over the weekend acting on information from their investigation of the thefts. The property they brought back accounts for about half the $20,000 worth of stolen items recovered so far.

Sheriff Wayne Pike said more arrests will be made and more property recovered. The most recent property brought back includes items taken from the Wythe County School Board office, the state Purchasing and Supply Building in Wytheville and Rural Retreat High School.

Five people have been arrested in connection with those break-ins.
