INMATES LOCKED DOWN AFTER STANDOFF
Officials at Keen Mountain Correctional Center, where fights sparked an 11 1/2-hour standoff in the prison yard, began a lock-down Thursday and plan to file criminal charges against inmates who injured guards and damaged property. The lock-down, during which all inmates are kept and fed in their cells, is expected to last 10 to 14 days, Operations Manager Sam Traverse said.
He said the inmates were protesting stricter enforcement Wednesday of policies restricting inmate movement within the Buchanan County prison.
Seven guards were injured in scuffles during the standoff, including one who suffered three broken ribs and another who had a broken finger, Traverse said.
