OBIT-WHEELING, FRED JACKSON
WHEELING, Fred Jackson, ("Red"), 71, of Salem, died Thursday, February 11,
1993, in the VA Medical Center, Salem. He had retired in 1988 from the Roanoke
County Maintenance Department as a locksmith. He was also a Navy World War II
veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen ("Veva") Wheeling.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel F. and Jean O.
Wheeling, Dennis P. ("Gussie") and Linda M. Wheeling, Duane L. and Katie M.
Wheeling, all of Salem; two daughters and son-in-law, Dona W. and Rodney M.
Smith, Deborah G. Wheeling, all of Salem; one brother, Robert L. Wheeling,
Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, David Chad Wheeling, MaryCatherine R.
Smith, Matthew P. Wheeling, Lauren M. Wheeling, Kayleigh M. Wheeling. A
memorial service will be held Saturday, February 13, 10 a.m. in the Chapel of
John M. Oakey & Son by the Rev. Jon Bennett. The family will receive friends
Friday from 4 to 5:30 and from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family
requests in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salem Volunteer
Rescue Squad or the Salem Educational Foundation. John M. Oakey & Son Funeral
Home, Salem, is handling arrangements.
