RIPLEY FOUNDATION HONORS ADMIRED PROFESSIONAL

The E. Price Ripley Memorial Foundation is an educational, non-profit organization. It was established to honor Ripley's dedication to the belief that education is the cornerstone of a free, democratic society.

The Foundation awards annual scholarships to deserving high school graduates. These scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement balanced with extra-curricular activities and financial need.

The newly elected officers are: president, Ron Dingler; vice president, Courtney Hoge; secretary, Inez Ripley; treasurer, W. Bruce Overstreet. Other board members are Roger Anglin, Robert T. Barham Jr., C. Mack Clark, Joseph H. Gwinn, Sam McNeil, Deborah A. Oehlschlaeger, William E. Reichelt and Rex N. White.

E. Price Ripley was an accomplished, admired, professional who dedicated his life to education and the enrichment of other lives. He devoted 54 years of service to the life insurance industry and the people of the Roanoke Valley, influencing positively the goals and careers of many of his associates.

He influenced by example. In 1933 he graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in business Administration. He joined National Life of Vermont as an agent immediately afterward.

In 1938 he received the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation - at that time the second CLU designation in Roanoke. In 1952 he became the first agent in this area to qualify for membership in the Million Dollar Round Table. He qualified for MDRT every year until his death on June 14, 1987. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Society of CLU and served as vice-president in 1955.

Today there are more than 100 CLU's in the Roanoke Valley and over 35 members of the Million Dollar Round Table, due in part to his efforts and example. He served as President of MDRT's charitable arm, the Million Dollar Round Table Foundation, in 1982.

In 1977, at 65, he earned a masters degree in Financial Services from the American College at Byrn Mawr, Pa. Subsequent to receiving this degree he earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation. The year was 1982. Ripley's zeal to further the careers and goals of others carried through to his everyday life. He gave freely of his time and shared his expertise and knowledge with others in the industry. He served as president of the Roanoke Estate Planning Council and the Roanoke Businessmen's Club. An active and devoted member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, he served as chairman of the Administrative Committee and as a trustee.

The E. Price Ripley Memorial Foundation carries on the work of one of Roanoke's finest businessmen, a man whose contributions will have long-lasting influence in the field of financial services and education.

To be a part of this foundation please make your tax-deductible contributions to E. Price Ripley Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 8291, Roanoke. 24014.
