KEININGHAM ACC HONOREE FOR ACADEMICS

Offensive guard Charles Keiningham from Vinton joined record-setting tailback Terry Kirby as two of three Virginia football players selected to the ACC All-Academic team.

UVa linebacker Tom Burns, a first-team Academic All-American, also was recognized by the conference.

Florida State quarterback and ACC player of the year Charlie Ward was one of four first-team All-ACC choices to make the team. The others were Maryland wide receiver Marcus Badgett, North Carolina State offensive guard Mike Gee and Georgia Tech defensive tackle Coleman Rudolph.

Keiningham, who had a 3.68 grade-point average (out of 4.0) in economics, started eight games this year as a graduate student. Kirby, who broke the UVa record for career rushing yardage, had a 3.67 GPA in psychology and gained his degree in 3 1/2 years.
