COUGARS' QUICK START TOPS ROCKETS 62-50
Covington took 10-point after the first quarter and held off Craig County for a 62-50 victory in Pioneer District boys' basketball Monday night.The Cougars (9-8), who started with a 15-5 run, got 20 points from Van Wallace and 15 from Chuck Morris.
Robbie Huffman and Tommy Fisher had 13 points each for the Rockets (8-11).
\ George Wythe 87, Rural Retreat 60: At Wytheville, the Maroons took control early and rolled to a Hogoheegee District victory over the Indians.
Aaron Black led the way with 19 points and Andre Cook added 13 for George Wythe (13-7, 10-3).
Rural Retreat (3-16, 2-11) got a game-high 23 points from Steven Pratt.

\ North Cross 46, Hargrave Military 24: After a close first half, the host Raiders (7-11) switched to a tough zone defense in the second half and shut down the Tigers (6-9) on the way to a non-district victory.
Brandy Markell, a senior point guard playing her final home game, scored 25 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including three 3-point goals. North Cross also got 10 points and seven rebounds from Heather Perry.
No Hargrave Military player had more than nine points. \
