ADDITIONAL SEX CHARGE IN GILES

An additional charge of aggravated sexual battery has been filed against elementary school teacher Timothy Myers, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Myers, 27, a first-year teacher, scoutmaster and basketball and soccer coach in Giles County, was charged last week with two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of forcible sodomy, allegedly involving two teen-age boys.

Authorities have added a third charge of aggravated sexual battery to the list, Commonwealth's Attorney James Hartley confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

The most recent charge involves a third boy, Hartley said. He said the incident occurred earlier and at a different location from the others, which were said have happened at a Giles County cabin in January. He was not certain when it occurred, however.

Hartley also declined to specify the location, for fear it would identify the child.

The prosecutor said the investigation is continuing. He said it is not known at this time if there will be additional charges.

Myers was arrested at Eastern Elementary School after school hours Feb. 10. He was released on $15,000 bond.

The Ripplemead resident has been suspended from his teaching job and from his positions as scoutmaster and assistant recreation director for the town of Pearisburg.

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 5 in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in Pearisburg.
