JOEL F. HERBEIN of Blacksburg received a $500 scholarship from the Southwest Virginia Club of the Penn State Alumni Association. Herbein is a biology major and the son of Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Herbein Jr.\ JO ELLEN FRANTZ of Blacksburg, an elementary education major, was named to the dean's list for the fall 1992 semester at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. Students qualify for the list by compiling a 3.5 or better grade-point average, carrying at least 12 hours of classes and getting no grade lower than a C.
Seven students from the New River Valley have been named to the president's list at the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke for the fall 1992 term. They are:\ DORIS BROERE,\ MADELINE A. EITANI,\ LYNDA L. FLORINDI, all of Blacksburg;\ CARMEN E. ELLIOTT of Christiansburg;\ PAMELA H. HANKINS of Pilot;\ CHARLOTTE P. HOLT of Riner; and\ JEFFREY T. SARABOK of Radford. To be named to the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or above while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
\ CHARLES D. PHLEGAR has been named associate vice chancellor for institutional advancement at East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. Phlegar was assistant director of the Alumni Association and the Athletic Association at Virginia Tech in the mid-1980s.
