GRETNA KNOCKS OFF BLACKSBURG
At Gretna, Region III champion Gretna defeated Region IV runner-up Blacksburg 15-11, 15-12 in a Group AA state volleyball quarterfinals match. Gretna will advance to the semifinals Saturday at Jefferson Forest High School.
At Gate City, Region IV champion Gate City defeated Region III runner-up Jefferson Forest 15-12, 15-9 in another Group AA quarterfinal. Gate City's Heather Smith had four service aces and seven kills, Ashley Ervin had seven assists and Doneva Bays had six kills. The Blue Devils will play in the semifinals Saturday at Jefferson Forest High School.
At Wytheville, Region C champion and defending state Group A champion George Wythe defeated Region D runner-up Rye Cove 15-0, 15-12 in the Group A state volleyball quarterfinals for its 43rd consecutive victory. The Maroons (25-0) will face the winner of the Luray-Sussex quarterfinal match Saturday in the semifinals at Stuarts Draft.
