SCC staff urges cut in Va. Power requestRICHMOND - The State Corporation Commission staff has recommended a 22 percent cut, or $153.6 million, in Virginia Power's proposed rates. The cut was the difference between Virginia Power's request of $413.5 million and the staff's recommendation of about $260.1 million.
The recommendation, if adopted this year by the three-member commission, could result in a reduction of $1.78 from the monthly bill of someone who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month. The total amount in refunds could be up to $71.6 million, spokesman Ken Schrad said.
A hearing examiner is to receive public comments March 8. Another hearing is scheduled for March 22.
