HIGHWAY-NEEDS HEARING TIGHTLY SCHEDULED THIS TIME
Localities in the New River Valley will have a chance to tell state Department of Transportation officials about their road needs at a pre-allocation hearing March 16 in the Salem District Transportation Building auditorium, 731 Harrison Ave.Representatives of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski and Carroll counties; the cities of Radford and Galax; and towns of Narrows, Pearisburg, Dublin, Pulaski, Blacksburg, Christiansburg and Hillsville will have their turn at the lectern starting at 12:15 p.m.
"Based on feedback received after last year's hearing," said District Administrator Fred Altizer Jr., "we will try a new format. Specific times have been set for representatives of counties and localities to participate."
Speakers from the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt and Craig; the cities of Roanoke and Salem; and town of Vinton are scheduled at 10:15 a.m., after remarks from transportation officials and state legislators.
The counties of Bedford, Franklin, Henry and Patrick; cities of Bedford and Martinsville; and towns of Rocky Mount and Stuart are to start at 11:15 a.m. The New River Valley localities are scheduled at 12:15 p.m., although the earlier presentations could run longer than the time allotted.
