GOLDEN CORRAL TO AID FITNESS CENTER
The Golden Corral Family Steakhouse restaurant in Pulaski will be donating part of its proceeds in March toward construction of the Cougar Physical Fitness Center at Pulaski County High School.
Clarence Webb, manager of the restaurant in Pulaski on Virginia 99, said 10 percent of the amount of receipts, deposited in a Cougar box, would be contributed to the project.
The effort to build a fitness center at the high school has raised $135,000 in financial gifts or in-kind donations of labor or materials from 175 individuals and 62 businesses.
Another $91,000 is needed to reach the $226,000 fund-raising goal. Members of the Committee to Construct the Cougar Physical Fitness Center are planning more fund-raisers for the months ahead.
A planned 13,860-square-foot field house addition would house the physical fitness center. All students could use the weights and other equipment instead of their being largely limited to use by members of school athletic teams. Up to 200 students could use it at one time, and it could be used by adult community members after school hours.
Thomas DeBolt, principal of the high school, brought the proposed fund-raising project before the School Board in late 1991. The board later gave its approval.
Individual donors have funded parts such as a dropped ceiling, painting and other aspects of the work.
