CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT GUARD, VA. UNION COACH TOP VASID PICKS
Christopher Newport guard Steve Artis and Virginia Union head coach Dave Robbins highlight the 1993 Virginia Sports Information Director's College Division Men's All-State basketball team. The squad is made up of Division II and III players.Artis, a 5-foot-10 senior from Newport News, was fifth in Division III in assists average and leaves as the assists leader in Division III history. He averaged 16.8 points. Robbins was voted coach of the year for the second straight season after leading Virginia Union to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association title and a top 10 ranking in Division II.
Joining Artis on the first team were Vaughn Troyer of Eastern Mennonite, Rick Chalk of Virginia Wesleyan, Warren Peebles of Virginia Union and James Boykins of Christopher Newport.
Two Roanokers headed the second team: Anthony Cummings of Lynchburg College and Derek Elmore of Emory & Henry. Cummings played at Cave Spring High and Elmore at Northside. - Staff report
