WIMBLEDON TO MAKE A FEW CHANGES
Wimbledon is changing its look without changing its traditions. The All England Club unveiled plans for a major facelift to take the world's premier tennis tournament into the 21st century. While Wimbledon's facilities and layout will change, its location and grass surface will not. Don't look for any roof over Centre Court either.
The centerpiece of the 20-year master plan is a new Court One stadium to be built north of Centre Court in Aorangi Park. The four-story oval stadium would have seating for 11,500 people, up from the present capacity of 6,500.
The existing 70-year-old Court One, which is adjacent to Centre Court, would be torn down and replaced by a new building providing facilities for players, club members and media.
The Centre Court stadium will be extended to increase seating from 13,100 to 13,900. The blueprint also includes plans for a new No. 2 court and two additional outside courts.
