FAIRFAX BOARD HEAD WON'T QUIT OTHER JOB

Although he once promised to give up his outside job, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Thomas Davis said he has held onto it because he needs the money.

Three days a week, Davis reigns over Fairfax County. But on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Davis is an attorney for PRC Inc., a computer firm that does business with the county.

Davis promised during the campaign two years ago he would give up his PRC job if elected chairman.

Davis said he puts in about 60 hours a week on county business, including evenings and weekends. The chairman's job pays $45,000 a year, but he said there's nothing wrong with his holding down a second job to help pay the bills.

"We took a big hit. Financially, the Davis family has had a significant drop in income by my assuming the chairmanship," he said. "No complaints; we recognized that at the time. But we could not take the whole drop." - Associated Press
