VINTON WOMEN'S CLUB WINS DISTRICT AWARDS
The Junior Woman's Club of Vinton won 18 club awards and one individual award at the Blue Ridge District spring meeting.Mary Kay Brown received the Martha Sharitz Hamil award for outstanding club work from the Junior Woman's Club of Salem. The Vinton club awarded its Kathryn Sowers Leadership Award to the Brambleton Junior Woman's Club.
The Vinton club of won first place in the small club division in the following categories: public affairs (citizenship), international affairs (trade and aid), international affairs (international understanding), continuing education, education (school issues), health/mental health, arts (music and dance), arts and crafts, legislation, conservation (natural resources), conservation (community environmental issues) and conservation (environmental education).
Second place awards included: public affairs (crime prevention), home life (today's living), membership, General Federation of Women's Clubs special project (child abuse prevention), Camp Easter Seal East, Camp Easter Seal West, public relations (communications) and fund-raising.
Vinton won special emphasis awards in public affairs (safety) and leadership. The club was honored for its program on child abuse prevention with the Rindy Lionberger Award from the Brambleton Junior Woman's Club.
