OBIT CLAYTOR, ROBERT BUCKNER
CLAYTOR, Robert Buckner, 71, of Norfolk and formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, April 9, 1993, at his home. Claytor was a Harvard Law School graduate who joined the Norfolk & Western Railway as a lawyer in 1951, and worked his way up to president 30 years later. When N&W merged with the Southern Railway in 1982, he was chosen chairman and ran the combined operation in Norfolk until his retirement in 1987. Claytor is survived by his daughter, Jane Webster, Norfolk; two sons, Robert H. Claytor of Columbia, Tenn., J. Preston Claytor of Lanexa (New Kent County); two brothers, W. Graham Claytor Jr. of Washington, Richard Claytor of Bethesda, Md.; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension Church in Norfolk. Another service will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Chruch in Roanoke 2 p.m Tuesday by the Rev. Thomas P. O'Dell. Burial will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia in Norfolk or to the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia in Roanoke. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
