SEEMS BOWERS CAN'T GET ANSWERS, EITHER
WILL THE Second Street-Gainsboro Road bridge be high enough for street cars to travel under? I just about fell out of my seat when that question was asked by Mayor David Bowers at the Roanoke City Council meeting on March 22.For months, Historic Gainsboro Preservation District, Inc., and supporters have been asking for a model of the proposed Second Street-Gainsboro Road and the Wells Avenue widening. It would answer Bowers' questions about the height of the proposed bridge. However, no city official has responded to our requests. Come to think of it, City Manager Bob Herbert didn't answer Bowers' question either.
Isn't it time that our city officials be responsive to inquiries from citizens, and isn't it time for them to be responsive to each other? It is time for our city officials to be responsible for their actions and accountable to citizens who pay their salaries. A model of these two proposed four-lane highways would certainly answer a lot of questions. EVELYN D. BETHEL ROANOKE
