WHITE HOUSE DEFENDS CAMPAIGN-STAFF POLICY

The Clinton campaign classified some of its workers as independent contractors and did not pay Social Security taxes for them, but the practice was legal, the White House said.

"We believe we have complied with the law," spokeswoman Dee Dee Myers said.

CBS news reported Friday that the campaign listed about 100 workers as self-employed consultants, allowing the campaign to avoid paying Social Security taxes. - Associated Press
