NOTHING HUMANE ABOUT KILLING

REGARDING the March 8 commentary entitled "We can eat meat humanely" by Philip D. Oliver:

Humanely means kindly, tenderly. When did killing become an act of kindness? I was pleased to see that Oliver respected vegetarians and their views. However, I do not believe his idea of eating meat humanely is possible since there is no humanity in killing.

Although I do not agree with all of his views, I do thank him for educating people about the mistreatment of animals in factory farms. DERICK PAGE ROANOKE
