DOBSON LEADS TECH'S BASEBALL VICTORY OVER JMU

Junior second baseman Justin Dobson hit a three-run homer to cap a seven-run fifth inning as Virginia Tech defeated James Madison 10-2, the Hokies' first win in Harrisonburg since 1986.

JMU (16-17) had defeated Virginia Tech (24-9) the past five times they met. Dee Dalton hit his fourth home run in three games, a solo shot in the first, and catcher Denny Hedspeth had three hits for the day.

The Hokies face North Carolina State (36-6), ranked in the nation's top five by three publications, tonight at 7 at Martinsville's Hooker Field. Tickets are $5.

Ferrum's Jason Wilson went 2-for-3 with four RBI and Mike Mitchell was 3-for-5 with three RBI as Ferrum romped past High Point 18-6. Ferrum is 19-6; High Point is 18-21.

The Roanoke Rugby Football Club will serve as host for a team from Cardiff, Wales, which is on a two-week tour of the Mid-Atlantic. The clubs will have a benefit match Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the River's Edge Sports Complex, weather permitting.
