Cash struck out seven and walked three and did not allow a ball out of the infield. Greg Reynolds, a freshman third baseman for Liberty, hit a grand slam off loser Mike McCorkle in the first and finished with six runs batted in. Catcher Curt Goff hit a two-run home run and Jerry Padgett was 3-for-3. The Minutemen are 3-2 overall and in the district; Altavista is 1-6.

In Bluefield, Christiansburg scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat Graham 6-5 in a non-district game.
Luke Duncan had a pinch-hit double and came in on the two-run homer by his cousin, Toby Duncan. Charlie Shrader's sacrifice fly drove in Denny Self, who walked and stole second and third, with the winning run. Graham got a runner on base but he got doubled up on a popup bunt. Schrader, who also got the save, struck out the final batter.
Toby Duncan also pitched for the win. Brock Whitlock had an earlier two-run homer for Christiansburg (3-6). Graham is 2-4.
At Radford, pinch hitter Tim Wheeler's RBI single in the seventh inning lifted William Byrd to a 5-4 non-district victory over the winless Bobcats. Chris Carr had a two-run homer for Byrd (7-0).
Jefferson Forest snapped a sixth-inning tie with three straight bunts and went on to beat Staunton River 7-4. Teddy Wilson had a suicide squeeze that plated a run before two more runs scored on an error at third. Ryan Gilliland, who had taken over on the mound in the sixth for Jefferson Forest (5-2 overall and in Seminole), worked the seventh for the victory. Staunton River is 2-4, 2-4.
Dan Ashwell, a Holy Cross right-hander, lost a perfect game when North Cross' Aaron Lange led off the seventh inning with a single but host Holy Cross went on to defeat the Raiders 6-1 in a Virginia Independent Conference game. Ashwell ended with a two-hitter and seven strikeouts. Dan Shallock had three hits and scored a run for Holy Cross (6-1, 3-0 VIC). All six runs surrendered by North Cross (4-6, 4-4) were unearned.
\ SOFTBALL: Timberlake Christian's Angie Coleman had two hits and scored two runs in a 12-6 Blue Ridge Conference victory over host Roanoke Valley Christian, which committed 15 errors. Timberlake's Stephanie Webb had a two-run triple. RVC is 0-2 overall and in the conference.
At Rocky Mount, Beth Drombretta was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Amy Popik 2-for-3 with one RBI, leading Cave Spring to a 4-3 win over Franklin County in a Roanoke Valley District game.
\ BOYS' SOCCER: At Pearisburg, Todd Lyons scored two goals, leading unbeaten Blacksburg to a 5-0 non-district over Giles.
At Vinton, William Byrd outshot Alleghany 60-2 and rolled to an 18-0 win in a Blue Ridge District match. Twelve players scored goals for Byrd (4-0). Michael Berry led the Terriers with three goals.
